  • Define the difference between trauma and PTSD.

Shared Trauma, Shared Resilience During a Pandemic: Social Work in the Time of COVID-19 CE Hours - 1

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn the definition and core components of shared trauma in comparison to secondary trauma, vicarious traumatization, compassion fatigue, and posttraumatic stress disorder.
  • Participants will learn about the contributing factors to the development of shared trauma, including traumatic life events, insecure attachment style, and enduring stress related to COVID-19.
  • Participants will learn about the main themes garnered from research with social work practitioners, including 1) the advantages and disadvantages of online treatment; 2) COVID-19 diagnosis of self and/or loved ones; 3) importance of the social work profession; 4) boundary concerns related to shared trauma; 5) traumatic grief; and 6) existential personal and professional concerns.

  • Explain structural entities and their role in shaping the person’s experience.
  • Identify culturally informed practices to mitigate adverse outcomes and promote healthy functioning.

Do We Really Need Another Lawyer in the Room? An Opportunity for Social Workers to Serve as Guardians Ad Litem CE Hours 1.5   Learning Objectives: 

  • Explain the history of divorce proceedings starting with the introduction of the Family Court system and the idea of the guardian ad litem. Attendees will understand that the divorcing process has changed over the years and the opportunity to be involved has never been greater.
  • The aftershocks of divorce and the traumatized world it creates. Attendees will be able to identify multiple areas of challenges that the trauma of divorce is affecting.
  • The distinction between attorneys and social workers. Attendees will understand that both attorneys and social workers have unique talents in the area of divorce settlement, but that the two can actually work together. There are areas specific areas that social workers need to be educated in order to do the job of a guardian ad litem effectively.

Healing Racial Wounds with Black Adult Women and Children: Decolonizing Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) in Clinical Practice CE Hours 1.5  
Learning Objectives: 

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge on racialized and generational trauma’s impact on Black women and their daughters.
  • Utilize clinical trauma assessment tools focused on racialized and generational trauma as part of overall narrative construction.
  • Employ culturally-responsive CPT techniques/interventions in clinical practice.
  • Decolonize clinically traditional definitions of trauma by centering individual and family narratives of racial wounds—both past and ongoing.
  • Implement psychoeducation around white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism throughout clinical application of CPT.

Public Health Emergency Response Strike Team (PHERST) Social Workers: Addressing Trauma of Officers in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps CE Hours - 1.5 
Learning Objectives: 

  • Discuss the origination and purpose of the Public Health Emergency Response Strike Team (PHERST).
  • Discuss the stress and trauma USPHS officers experience as first responders and how PHERST Licensed Clinical Social Workers are addressing these issues.
  • Describe the increased need for Licensed Clinical Social Workers in response to regional, national, and global public health emergencies.

Through Iceboxes and Kennels: Stresses and Traumas of Immigrant Children and Families CE Hours - 1 
Learning Objectives: 

  • Participants will become familiar with the effects of the immigration process and of immigration enforcement practices that the U.S. has used in the past decade which reverberate in the lives of children and families from Central America.
  • Participants will recognize the impact of detention stress and separation trauma on the mental health immigrant children from Central America.
  • Participants will learn to apply knowledge from brain development, attachment theory, and family systems theory to immigrant children, including those who were separated temporarily or permanently from their parents.

American Board of Clinical Social Work, #1854, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit.  ACE provider approval period: 8/23/2023 – 8/23/2024.   Social workers completing these courses receive 1 continuing education credit per course.
