Session Description:
In today’s hyper-connected world, digital technology is a double-edged sword, offering unprecedented access to information and support while also contributing to rising levels of anxiety, depression, and social isolation. This session will explore the complex relationship between mental health and the digital environment, focusing on social media, smartphone use, Artificial Intelligence, and digital wellness. Attendees will learn about the psychological impact of online behavior patterns, the benefits and risks of mental health apps, and how technology can hinder and enhance emotional well-being.

Using evidence-based insights and practical examples, this session is designed to equip both professionals and community members with tools to foster healthier digital habits. Interactive discussion and real-life case scenarios will engage the audience in reflecting on their digital usage and its effects on mental health. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of identifying harmful digital behaviors, integrating supportive technologies, and guiding others—clients, patients, or loved ones—toward more balanced and mindful online experiences.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how excessive or problematic social media use can impact mental health outcomes such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem.
  2. Identify key signs of digital overuse or digital burnout in themselves or others.
  3. Evaluate the benefits and limitations of mental health apps, teletherapy, and other digital interventions.
  4. Apply strategies for establishing healthy screen time boundaries and fostering digital mindfulness.
  5. Recommend practical approaches to promote balanced digital habits in clinical, educational, or home settings.
